BOSTON—It’s the big question on the minds of many in the physician practice world. Will the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issue a final rule in the coming weeks that includes a controversial proposal to consolidate evaluation and management (E/M) billing codes? Critics say the change will leave physicians who treat high-acuity patients underpaid.
