Customizable order sets, or protocols, are suggested based on documentation in the patient chart and the encounter note, such as suggesting kidney stone for back pain, blood in urine and nausea. They can also be used to suggest medications, lab orders, clinician orders, patient education, consent forms and when to return to the clinic. Default values are readily available and can be pre-selected for fast entry but can be overridden when they are not the best choice for the patient. In addition, If electronically sent, lab orders and prescriptions can be sent automatically as part of the protocol.
